Does Article Marketing Increase Blog Traffic?

One of the ways internet marketers use to increase traffic to their website is by article marketing. Bloggers too, have used this method on a smaller scale to increase blog traffic.

By writing articles related to your blog topic and submitting them to free article directories, readers may click on the link at the end of your article to visit your blog. Publishers may also wish to publish your article on their blogs. If they do, they will include a link back to your site which may lead more readers to visit your blog.

As your list of articles grows and get published on the various sites, the links back to your blog increases too. With more incoming links, your blog grows in importance in search engine results and gets ranked higher.

Does Article Marketing Increase Blog Traffic

More Traffic Equals More Potential Customers

If you are promoting a product or service, the links in your articles bring you potential customers. Readers of your article will most likely be your target audience and even if they are only browsing, they may convert into customers in the future.

Making Search Engines Work For You

Search engines not only index blogs and websites, they also index published articles. They index articles written about your blog’s topic so when someone searches for that particular topic, the list of results will have your blog and even your articles.

Important Elements In An Article

Articles drive traffic to your blog and are a factor in achieving high rankings in search engine results pages. The higher a site ranks, the more traffic it captures. Besides being well written, an article also has to have certain elements to get maximum leverage and the best results to make your blog earn highest returns from increased traffic.

  1. Keywords And Key Phrases
An article must have keywords and key phrases relevant to your blog topic. Readers looking for something specific type these words into search engines to find the information they want, for example, tips to make money online. There are many free keyword tools you can use such as SEO Book Keyword.

  2. Keyword Density
Keyword density is the number of times a keyword or keyword phrase is used in an article. For this to be effective, an article must have a keyword density that is not too high, nor too low.

An article with too many keywords may be ignored by search engines and put off readers as well. A number that is too low may never get picked up search engines. It is usually recommended for an article to have a keyword density of 10 to 15 percent of its content to rank high in the search engine results.

  3. Good Article Content
A good article must contain useful information that readers will want to read and be impressed enough to click on the link to your blog. It must be well written with good grammar and spelling so that your article is professional enough for publishers to want to publish it on their blog. A good article backed up with statistics and facts also boosts your reputation as a trusted source of information in your niche.

  4. Linking Articles
Always have a link back to your blog at the end of your articles. This area is called the resource box. Include a short but interesting write-up about yourself and a good description of your blog for readers to connect with you and consider visiting your blog. Remember to include good, relevant keywords strategically. If people like your articles, they may visit your blog and blog about what you have written and link to your article.

The Traffic Potential From Article Directories

Article directories have tens of thousands of readers everyday in search of information and content to use. If your article stands out and is popular, the potential surge in traffic from just a fraction of this traffic pool can mean higher ranking for your blog and higher earnings for you.

Article marketing is something internet marketers swear by when it comes to getting sales and list building. Bloggers on the other hand are not entirely convinced submitting articles to directories is worth the trouble since they already own blogs and would rather keep their unique articles for themselves.

Also, in order to avoid duplicate content, articles have to be rewritten before submission. Many feel this is not worth the effort since in order to get meaningful results, internet marketers often submit hundreds of articles.

Have you tried article marketing and how has it worked for you?

Thanks for sharing your experiment. Looks like bloggers should stick to blogging and not use internet marketer’s approach unless they are prepared to write hundreds of articles.

Thanks for stopping by and hope you’ll visit again.

That’s definitely a good list of considerations for anyone interested in submitting articles to article directories!

One thing I would add is to ensure your article is incomplete and finishes with some sort of ‘teaser’ that prompts readers to click on the link in your resource box.

i.e. if the article is entitled “Top 5 ways to teach an old dog new tricks”, finish it off by saying something like: “to discover my 2 best (and top secret) tricks for teaching an old dog, click on the link in my resource box below!”.

You want to finish with a ‘call to action’ that prompts people to want to visit your site, and give them a good reason to do so.

The link in your resource box is often nice for adding to your site’s inbound PR, but actually getting readers’ to visit your site is even more valuable if you can interest them in subscribing to your newsletter, or buying something advertised on your site, or clicking on an AdSense ad , etc.

Additionally, as one of your other commenters was advised (on his own blog entry) if you’re only going to subscribe to a dozen or less article directories, make them valuable ones…

ie. ezinearticles.com is one of the most oft suggested directories to submit to. And I have a free resource page listing over 200 article directories with Google PR rank indicated; which is a decent barometer of their value.

And perhaps better yet, there’s a section for niche specific directories on my page too - and if your article has the same theme as one or more of those directories, they are a must-submit site to use. Google likes inbound links from similarly themed websites to your own, and any human traffic should be very targeted as well.

I put a direct link to my resource page in my comment name here, if you or your readers want to check it out.

      Regards and best of luck!

      - Steve
