Why PPC Is A Waste Of Time

Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising such as Google AdSense is popular among publishers because they are easy to set up and don’t require any maintenance. Just copy and paste a few lines of code, sit back and watch the money roll in. Or does it.

Mike of Mike’s Money Making Mission has done a very simple yet effective analysis of PPC programmes as a means of making money online.

PPC

PPC depends on users clicking on ads where each click earns the publisher a certain amount of money. However, since these sums tend to be tiny – mostly a few cents per click – a large number of clicks are necessary to ensure any meaningful amount of income.

Taking a realistic goal of earning $100 per month from PPC at an average but fairly accurate click-through rate of 1.7%, you need 58,500 page impressions per month or around 1,950 impressions per day to get the 30 or so clicks a day needed to earn $100 per month.

A site with that kind of traffic would make more sense to sell direct advertising – whether banners, text links or reviews. A 125×125 banner fetches at least $50 per month and with just 4 banners, you can earn double the amount PPC fetches.

My own experience with PPC using Bidvertiser concurs with Mike’s findings. In fact, I have been seeking alternative sources of income for the hot spot that my Bidvertiser ads are occupying at the moment. I have been keeping it on because of its low minimum payout of $10.

PPC programmes are slow earners but still, there are those who swear by them. If PPC works wonderfully for you, please share your experience.
