Category Order is a WordPress plugin created by David Coppit that allows you to manage categories. By default, WordPress lists categories alphabetically which you cannot change without doing some serious coding.

Category Order lets you list categories in any order with options to indent subcategories and line spacing in between each item. Another useful feature is the ability to collapse sub categories to show only main categories which unfold when clicked.

The interface is very user friendly with all the controls nicely laid out in a systematic manner on one page. The plugin is easy to install. Just put it in the plugins folder and activate it as usual and a “Category Order” tab appears under the “Manage” Menu. There’s no code to insert into the sidebar which is really great because another category order plugin requires you to mess with the php code resulting in many problems cropping up.
