Google targeting PayPerPost blogs

Blogs that write get paid to reviews for PayPerPost are being targeted by Google according to the PayPerPost blog post titled Google Goes After The Everyday Blogger. Bloggers saw their PageRank reduced to 0 from whatever they had previously.

We now know from some of our friends inside of Google (thanks “bob”) that they are now looking for phrases such as PPP, PayPerPost, ReviewMe, Payu2blog, etc. in the text of your post. For that reason I would suggest refraining from using any type of this text in the body of your posts, sponsored or not. When you disclose thank the sponsor, not PPP.

A PayPerPost employee who doesn’t write paid reviews had his blog deranked because he simply talked about his day to day work.

PayPerPost parent company IZEA has come up with its own ranking system RealRank which they say gives a more accurate way of ranking blogs. Using a piece of javascript, RealRank data is gathered from the IZEA Toolkit “ITK” (formerly PPP Tools). It uses this formula:

70% weighted towards visitors per day
20% weighted towards amount of ACTIVE inbound links per day
10% weighted towards pageviews per day

ITK gathers REAL traffic information, much like your analytics platform and ranks users based on their standing within the network. It will be implemented within the next few weeks.

While this solves the problem of unfair PageRank, it remains to be seen if how to make money fast bloggers are ready and willing to give up PageRank which still affects their other sources of income. Unless a blogger derives the bulk of his income from PayPerPost, setting up an alternative ranking system for members doesn’t serve any real purpose outside the realm of PayPerPost.

Nope, not true. From what I can gather Izea is planning to open the RealRank to anyone. It’s not just for people who sign up to use their paid blogging services.

The irony of this is that Google Analytics would provide a rich amount of marketing demographics, yet Google hasn’t done anything with it. It would be much better than Toolbar PageRank which has been clearly exposed as an artificial measurement by this latest round of cuts.

Analytics would be hard to game and give advertisers very accurate info about the worth of a site for their campaign. Why wouldn’t Google do this? It would impact their Adsense revenue.

    2xKnight:

It will be interesting to see how PPP gets non PPP blogs to be listed in their index. If I’m not a PPP blog, I may not have been penalized as heavily – PR0 – and so I would not be very interested in getting listed in a new index with little authority in the eyes of advertisers.

We’ll see how PPP manages to get the hype going.

    Thanks for your comments!

The current pagerank correction is still not over. Who knows maybe Google is doing something with that as we speak?

They are just taking their own sweet time since they know they basically rule the internet.

    Thanks for your comments.

What! I have payperpost account but I never used it before. Then suddenly my page rank went to zero recently.

Welcome to the PRZero Club. :P

Google doesn’t care whether you actually do paid posts or not. If you have a PPP badge, code or even mention in your blog, you automatically qualify for the club.
