9 Viral Marketing Tips For Blog Traffic

Affiliate marketing techniques are similar to blog marketing in some ways because both require good traffic and publicity to sell their products. In my research into affiliate marketing tips, I realise that there are quite a few viral marketing techniques which can be adapted and applied to increase blog traffic and publicity. However I have to add the disclaimer that you need to assess if the tips are workable for your specific type of blog.

1. “Tell A Friend” Script

Make it easy for visitors to refer their friends by using a small script that allows people to enter the contact information of people they think would be interested in your site. Most people know other people just like themselves and would like to share what they’ve found with their friends and colleagues - that’s why you’ve been receiving lots of jokes and health tips in your email inbox. Feedburner has a built in email script in their FeedFlare which allows you to incorporate this feature neatly into each post.

2. Distribute A Brandable Ebook Or Special Report

Believe it or not, despite having being around since the beginning of internet marketing, ebooks are still popular. Especially if they are free and brandable which allows people to put their own name and site on it to giveaway. Some go even further - they allow you to rebrand the ebook, sell it and keep 100% of the profits. That’s basically getting money for doing nothing. Of course, you are obliged to keep the contents and affiliate links intact. Still it’s not a bad way to earn some cash just by retyping over a name.

3. Submit Your Free Ebook Or Special Report To Directories

There are many free directories dedicated to compiling lists of free information products where you can get added exposure and traffic. To make your product stand out from the rest, make sure what you are offering is a high quality product so that people will be interested. Run-of-the-mill free information doesn’t quite cut it anymore since free information is plentiful. Spend some time to do in-depth research and write a quality ebook instead of throwing one together in an hour using various PLR articles.

4. Create A Free Widget Or Tool On Your Site

Engage the services of a freelance programmer who can create a simple tool or widget that will be useful to your targeted readers. Include your website address in the source code and allow people to put it on their own blogs. 5. Include A Useful Script Or Plugin

If you don’t want to spend on a programmer, pick up a free script instead. You can never have too many plugins as Wordpress users will know. There are also many scripts that add to a site’s effectiveness, such as a script that lets you rotate banner ads, or a script that lets you conduct online web-based auctions or a plugin that helps you find your stolen content. 6. Offer A Multi-tier Affiliate Programme With High Commission

If you have an outstanding product that offers high commission AND has a multi-tier plan, chances are your fantastic product will soon spread by word of mouth faster than you can ever do on your own. Offer 2 or 3 tiers of commission to make your product more attractive for affiliates to recruit new affiliates. A good affiliate marketing programme can result in exponential growth in traffic.

7. Create A Flash-Based Game On Your Site

Include a simple and fun game on your site designed to advertise your website, product or service. If it becomes popular, it can create a substantial amount of traffic to your site. To further leverage on this, make it a requirement for visitors to enter their email addresses before they can play so that you can follow up with them later.

If you have a great ebook or report, send it to A-listers in your industry for them to read and critique. If you are lucky, they will blog about it and send you tons of traffic since they are likely to have thousands of readers everyday who won’t hesitate to check out something or even sign up and buy a product just because an A-list blogger mentions it.

9. Apply Other Viral Marketing Techniques Being Used

Not so long ago, videos were confined to funny gag videos to be emailed to friends and colleagues for a laugh but somewhere in between, someone took the viral video and turned it into a marketing tool. And now, everyone is jumping on board the viral video ship to the extent that even simple messages are being sent via video rather than the usual blog post. Some use it as a teaser to attract viewers to visit their site while others require you to give your email in order to view that “Secret Selling Technique” video. Think about what existing mediums you can tap on and put a new spin to it for your own benefit.

Viral marketing is really useful if you provide high quality content to a targeted niche audience, I usually do this in the form of a free report, sometimes I’ll let the subscribers who download it have the option of rebranding it so that it will benefit them too but other times I simply let them download a copy of a high quality report that they will put to use, like a tutorial, this works far better in most cases.
