Alexa widget improves traffic

someuseless.infoRecently, I installed the Alexa site stats button on my site as I read at several blogs that doing so would improve traffic. My stats before was in the region of 699,000. Now, after a few weeks, stats show 614,506. It would seem that it worked for me although others have reported little or no change.

I don’t pretend to fully understand the workings of Alexa but general consensus among experts is that it is not a good measure of traffic since it only registers visitors who have installed the Alexa toolbar. Unfortunately, most advertisers use it as one of their criteria for determining a blog’s worth and whether they want to pay for a review or text link.

If you’d like to try this out, you can get the widget here.

Maybe the increase of traffic has nothing to to with the widget?

I would be willing to try this out on my personal blog.

I know that I am not even ranked anymore on alexa, however around 2004 I once had my domain in the 250,000 range for about 6 months until I had entered college at UA. Now, I am willing to try this out again and see how it goes.

Any tips and tricks on getting traffic would be greatly appreciated. I know that the market has changed so much in 3 years, I’m like a noob again :)

It helps with rankings because the widget records visitors who have the Alexa toolbar installed. Without the widget, your ranking would be much higher.

A very flawed measuring tool – what about all those visitors without the toolbar? Don’t they count as traffic? If you don’t monetize your website, I guess there’s no need to bother with the ranking because advertisers DO look at Alexa ranking to consider how much to pay you.
