There are many places that offer free blogs if you don’t want to spend money to get your own domain or hosting. The most well-known of these is, of course Blogger. If you’re starting a personal diary and not a money-making blog that needs to contain keywords in its domain, Blogger is fine. If you want a blog with the keywords you want, Blogger will present some problems since it’s been around for ages, getting a domain with the keywords you want is often not possible.

There are many other sites that offer free blogs besides Blogger.

With some of these free blog sites, you can get a domain like “http://yourkeyword.freeblog.com” instead of “http://freeblog.com/blog/yourkeyword” or worse, “http://freeblog.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474977397288&” but all are useful for creating backlinks.

WordPress 2.6 Available

WordPress 2.6 is available with some new features. You can now save multiple versions of your post to go back to in case you change your mind. Live preview of themes lets you see what your blog looks like in a particular theme before you activate it. A useful feature lets you include quotes, photos and videos from a site directly from your dashboard.

If you’re afraid of upgrading because you might mess up something, here’s a good method which I’ve always used without mishap. If you go to WordPress.org in the help section, it tells you to delete certain WordPress files before uploading the new WordPress files. DON’T DELETE. Instead, create a new folder, name it “old” or something and move your old WordPress files into this folder so that you can recover the original version should anything go wrong.

Google Adwords Keyword Tool Shows Search Figures

One of the best keyword tools, Google Adwords Keyword Tool now shows the estimated search in figures instead of just in graph bars previously. Average searches for the previous month and average search volume for the last 12 months are now listed in figures. This is particularly helpful for keyword research where only third party keyword tools such as Keyword Discovery and SEO Book Keyword provided search estimates in figures.

Figures for keyword search results are often conflicting and highly inaccurate, making keyword research more of a thumb-gesturing rough guide rather than a route map. Even with search figures now available directly from Google, it remains to be seen how much more accurate keyword research can be.
